19th century antique sterling silver die-stamped amulet pendant from Rajasthan, northern India of the Seven Mothers (also known as the Seven Sisters). A group of Hindu goddesses, Brahmani, Vaishnavi, Maheshvari, Indrani, Kaumari, Varahi, Chamunda or Narasimhi who are always depicted together. They are called Sapta Matrikas. They are described as assisting the great Shakta Devi in her fight with demons. The eighth figure which is usually only partially depicted is not a goddess, but a guardian. A sacred, powerful charm, it is believed to offer the wearer protection. This necklace also features fine silver Thai Hilltribe and Indian silver beads, with six solid silver, pear shaped drops.
